Children Holiday Speech & Drama Camp <

Blossom Children Holiday Speech & Drama Camp presents:

The Tale of the Fisherman and the Flounder

It’s another routine day out at sea for the fisherman, until he met a fish which seemed to be...behaving weirdly. It was throwing tantrums, making its eyes and mouth look disorderly. Why is the fish acting in this manner? And what on earth is happening to our oceans? Will the fish eventually be caught by the fisherman?

  • Duration: 9am - 5pm (Registration starts at 8.30am)
  • Class size: 25

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination."   ~ Albert Einstein

7 short stories shared by Satya Nadella [CEO Microsoft]

🌾 *LOOKING BACK*
I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper I’m working on for my Psychology class. When I asked her to define success in her own words, she said, “Success is when you look back at your life and the memories make you smile."

🌾 *LOVE CONQUERS PAIN*
After I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. And just before he died, he licked the tears off my face.

🌾 *TOGETHERNESS*
As my father, three brothers, and two sisters stood around my mother’s hospital bed, my mother uttered her last coherent words before she died. She simply said, “I feel so loved right now. We should have gotten together like this more often.”

🌾 *AFFECTION*
I kissed my dad on the forehead as he passed away in a small hospital bed. About 5 seconds after he passed, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy.

🌾 *JOY*
When I witnessed a 27-year-old cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter’s antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again.

🌾 *KINDNESS*
A boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me. He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, “I hope you feel better soon.”

🌾 *SHARING*
I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe. He said he hadn’t eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy. Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was eating. The first thing the man said was, “We can share it.”

*Celebrate Life with Gratitude*

10th Joyous Learning Grove Children’s Holiday Camp

Screen-Shot-2017-09-15-at-3.37.17-PM.png

Our world is changing and becoming increasingly complex and unsafe. Hence, it is of great importance to help our young to develop practical skills for mindfulness and learn how to cope with the changes as well as become agents for social change.

This 2-day holiday camp will take on a process-oriented approach to engage children in discovering more about themselves and the world that they are living in. Using the chosen story/ picture as a stimulus, children will use drama tools, such as Role-Play and Creative Movement to explore dramatic play, creating scenarios from the story that will highlight themes relevant to their lives. Through a variety of child led activities, children will explore the use of drama strategies to establish character relationships, understand situations and come up with ideas to solve problems.

There will be a family engagement segment on Day 2, where the parents will be invited to participate alongside with their children to co-create their image of a better world through different artistic mediums.

Our Educational Objectives:

• Engaging children in the process of learning in and through the arts
• Developing children’s imagination and creativity
• Fostering critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
• Exploring and Evaluating ideas from different perspectives
• Expressing feelings and interpreting feelings of others
