Parent Sharing Sessions

Content Overview:

When we are communicating, we tend to blame others when our messages are not fully understood; as the quote “ Improvement begins with I ” - Arnold H. Glasow. Thus, instead of blaming others, should we reflect on our way and look into alternative ways of communicating to motivate and engage others in active listening?

Richard Lim would share techniques and experiences that he has been using in his past 30 years of training, which not only helped him to engage others to “listen”, but also enhancing relationships through better understanding of each other’s wants and needs.

Upon completion of the two 1.5 hours workshops, you will

  1. have in-depth understanding of listening barriers

  2. develop message map to align listener’s needs/wants with your communication objectives

  3. learn questioning techniques to facilitate other’s decision making process in favour of your objectives.

What are the takeaways from our parent who attend the first session:

  • I learn how to use different ways or techniques when communicating with my partner.

    • how to show support even when we don't agree with each our partner

    • reflective learning

    • don't stop at maintaining relationship. Need to understand the person better.

  • 今天跟林老师学了很多。在沟通方面,先教导对方一下,自己思考对方的背景与知道多少,可以沟通得更好。

  • Learn about communicating effectively with others using questioning techniques. To maintain a relationship, it's not about who win or lost but instead reaching a common goal and interest.

  • Reflection on how I should talk then others will listen:

I have better understanding of listening barriers.

    • 1) there must be engagement, rationally & emotionally.

    • 2) there may be blind spots due to expectations.

    • 3) speaker needs to take listeners' subject knowledge into account.

    • 4) we need to understand our listeners, their beliefs/values/experience, and adapt to it.
